Now there's no excuse!
I've searched high and low for a decent utility to help me restore from a system or hard drive crash, and I've settled in on one product that, in my opinion, blows away anything available for the home user, and it's called Acronis True Image.
This article refers to version 9.
Ease of Use
As far as I'm concerned, unless you're a complete dope with a blindfold on, there's really nothing easier! Everthing is laid out in a step by step fashion through the use of well laid out wizards. Some of the programmers must have been home users! No guess work. You're told exactly what you're about to do well in advance of actually applying your changes. All of this with easy to understand directions.
Features | - Scheduler: Automatically schedule backups. Nice if you leave your system on and backup during the wee hours of the morning.
| | | - Acronis Secure Zone: I'm not a very big fan of this feature, but may be of use to some. What it does is create an invisible partition on your hard drive to store backups. Not too useful in the case of a hard drive failure. But handy if you don't have an extra drive or storage device, and you want to use it as you would system restore, because for all intents and purposes, that's what it is.
| | | - Acronis Recovery Manager: You can boot into Acronis recovery even if your system is FUBAR. Working outside of Windows, you can restore a previous backup without going through the process of reinstalling Windows and everthing else you had.
| | | - PC cloning: Pretty much the same as the above, but in this case, you duplicate the drive to another drive which will be set to active, therefore installing a perfect duplicate of a failing or undersized drive.
Overall, I'd rate Acronis True Image a must get for any home user. There really isn't any excuse for a failed system due to corrupt data or phyical failure of an hardrve.
And for less than $50 ( about $40 via download), you can be assured you'll never miss a beat when it come to restoring your previously working system to it's full glory. | | |

- Acronis Secure Zone is somewhat misleading and not useful for a disk failure.
